The Anata World
Anata (あなた) is a Japanese word most commonly translated as “you.”
Its meaning depends on context. The same word can suggest familiarity, affection, distance, or simple reference.
The name was chosen deliberately for The Anata Quartet.
In the novels, Anatas are synthetic companions designed to become part of human lives. Intimate, familiar, and deeply personal, they nevertheless remain products of a corporation.
The same tension exists within the name itself.
Familiar and unfamiliar at once.
The question at the heart of the series is simple:
Where does the boundary between self and other truly lie?
